Visual Arts

Visual Arts encompasses the traditional fields of painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.  It also includes animation, ceramics, jewellery making etc. The Visual Arts course is designed to feed students with creative thinking and broaden their minds.

Students discover new and interesting ways to extend their imagination and techniques analysing a variety of artists from different genres.  Within the course students solve through their innovative thinking exploring beyond the boundaries of the traditional arts.

Students are offered 24 credits for Level 1 & 2: 12 for internals and 12 for external boards.   Level 3 are offered 26 credits: 12 for internals and 14 for external boards.  The external boards consist of art works on 2 panel boards for Level 1 and 2.  Level 3 consists of 3 panel boards.  These are externally examined in Wellington.  

Future opportunities consist in architecture, freelance artist, photographer, fashion designer, art director, animator, art teacher, costume designer, set designer, film, illustrator (book), art glass maker, pottery and the list goes on.

Maori Language Week - Cruz

Matariki - Is the Maori New Year. It originated from a story about Tane-Mahuta (God of Forest) and his Tawhirimatea, They each wanted to decorate their sky father (Ranginui). Tawhirimatea had the idea of putting stars and the moon  and the son into the Sky to decorate their dad. Matariki was recently and still is being celebrated today. 

Matariki - Cruz

Matariki, is a 7 star cluster. Also sisters. The name of the stars are Waiti, Waita, tupu-a-nuku, tupu-a-rangi, Waipuna-a-rangi, Ururangi and Matariki. Matarki is the maori name for the Pleiads. This will appear in this year on the 28th June, which is Saturday. You can see the matariki during early hours in the morning. :)

Fresh Sweet Dates

Ingredients

• 1 pound fresh dates
• ½ cup butter
• ¾ cup flour
• 1 teaspoon cardamom, ground

Procedure

1. Remove the pits from the dates and arrange in 6 individual serving dishes.
2. Melt the butter in a heavy saucepan and stir in the flour.
3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the flour turns golden brown. Be careful not to burn.
4. Remove the flour mixture from the heat and stir in the cardamom.
5. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly, stirring occasionally.
6. While still warm, pour over the warm dates and allow to cool to room temperature before serving.

Makes 6 servings.

Integrity - Cruz

Integrity has two definitions. Number 1 is- the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles, and number 2 is- the state of being whole and undivided.

How I can show integrity around school and during school hours is when I can come to school everyday with my uniform and a good attitude. Meaning I'm showing respect to the school by wearing their uniform with pride.

Teach Me Something - Cruz

• How To Make Fried Bread:
  
  3 1/2 c self raising flour
• 1/2 tsp salt
• cold water to mix
• good quality oil for frying
• 
  1. In a large bowl measure the flour, then add salt...gradualy add enough cold water to make a soft dough, mix thru with a wooden spoon, but try not to over mix, as this can make them stiff and flat...
• 2. turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and push or roll dough out to 1 1/2 cm thickness..
• 3. cut into the desired size, then place each peice into the preheated hot oil and fry til golden on both sides

First Week Back - Cruz

First day back at school was really boring, same things we normally do just now I'm year 10. Not at the bottom at the school any more, still with the same class, same friends and even same tutor teacher. But I reckon school will hopefully get better as it goes through the year. The End(:

Cruz - Bullying

Why is it difficult for parents/schools/teachers to do anything when bullying happens?

The reason why it is hard for parents, teachers and schools to prevent bullying from happening is because many students would be too scared to ask for help or one of the bullies would threaten to beat up the kid that is getting bullied. Also it is hard for them because like schools, teachers and parents aren't around with they're bullied child 100% of the time however, your child could stop getting bullied if he could set a trap for the bully.So there is my reason of why bullying is so hard to be stopped by teachers, schools and parents.

Cruz - Getting to Know You

Tatiana Kaho went to Tamaki Intermediate and her best memory there was the lunch. She now comes to Tamaki College and enjoys the lunch. Her favourite film is Friday because she finds it funny and inspiring. Tatiana loves watching the Regular Show because she says, it is the most understanding, realistic cartoon there is. She loves eating licorice and is a massive fan of Kendrick Lamar. Tatianas favourite hobby is sleeping. I enjoyed finding information about Tatiana and I cant wait to find out more about her.

Cruz - The Tamaki Way

Respect other people’s property
I think this will do the best for me because in my previous school years many of my things had gone missing and had not been returned and it quite enraged me. Also now that i’m at Tamaki College I don’t think that the people here will do such a thing because everyone seems so kind and friendly and they don't seem like the type of people that will steal my things. Also the students look more reliable to give things too and they will return them, instead of just stealing them. Thats what I believe is the Tamaki Way :)
