Level 1 Options - Caroline and Ilisapeci - Catering

CATERING

Catering taken by Ms Moore for Level 1 and Mrs Heka from ages above. Catering is about learning new skills in the kitchen. It teaches them how to use different techniques also. Catering is about learning how to make and serve food. Things like making different sauces, finger foods meat cute and many more. And for what most people don't know its about learning about different parts of various things for an example an egg. And what parts of that particular ingredient you need to use for making foods. You do not set externals if taking Catering. Because catering is about physical learning, you do not set externals, yet still do internals. Catering hands out many credits. At level 1 you recieve at about 20 to 25 credits. At level 2 you recieve credits worth of 50 national credits.Meaning you can use your certificate in New Zealand. When interviewing Mrs Heka all that was quoted was "The sky is the limit". When taking catering there are SO MANY things that you are capable to do. Things like being a mobile chef, to being a personal chef, invent manager mainly anything with chef qualifications.

Matariki - Ilisapeci

Matariki means a group of stars also known as pleiades the cluster of the seven sisters. This is referred to the traditional Maori new year. This is marked of the sighting of the new moon. The Maori new year is marked of the rising of Matariki. This year Matariki is going to be on28th June 2014 :D:D:D

About the country

Food:

One of the top two well known food in america is hot dogs and Hamburger.  The hamburger in America was first created in America in the 1900s. This is the main course in so many restaurants in America. The name was originally from germany, this was when so many german people emigrated to U.S.A which also stands for why they named it because burg means fortified settlement. Like the burger the hot dog was also from germany but was popularized in the U.S.A. Another name for hot dog in America was called a Wiener.

Music:

The music in America reflects on the country’s multi ethnic cultures. Music is usually influenced from the west africans,scottish,Irish,Mexican and cuban music traditions. America’s most known genres are hip-hop,R&B,Jazz,Pop,Rock and roll,techno and dance. Did you know that America has the worlds largest music market with the total retail value of $1.49 billion dollars and the music has been heard all around the world ever since the beginning of the 29th century.

Clothing/National dress:

Fashion in America is usually informal. Some of the clothes are reflected in their cultural roots. Like for example the american styles are cowboys hats,boots and leather motocycle. Fashion has changed enormously.  Unique regional dressing style has been in trends ever since the western times. One other popular clothing in America is the blue jeans. This kind of clothing is used in ethnic events and cultural events.  Other well known clothes are the swag pants,saggy pants, and neon t-shirt/pants.

Culture/Art:

Culture in the U.S.A is mostly influenced by the western but its influenced by native american,african,asian,latin american and polynesians cultures. The united states is an ethnically and racially diverse country as a result of a large scale of migrants from different countries. America has its own unique social characteristics such as the dialect,music,food,arts,social habits,cuisine and folklore.

Famous for:

America is well known for its liberty,freedom and generosity to poorer nations. This country is also well known for its victory.They are also for promoting the world for peace and helping nations,fair and wonderful governmental ideas, open spaces, friendly people, football and baseball.

My 2 options i am going to take next year is prob automotive and p.e or catering :D Why because I wana eat in catering and the food. And because i wana do p.e because so i can exercise. For automotive I have no idea why lols

Integrity is the quality of being honest and having a strong moral principle. I would show this at school by being honest and not cheating in my test or exams.

Athletics - Ilisapeci

On Thursday 21st of February Tamaki College held a very special event called athletics. In athletics there are 4 houses. Puriri,Kowhai,Rata and Totara. Unfortunately this year my class was in puriri, the house we were in last year. The puriri chant was good, to be true it was better than last year. It was probably hard for us seniors to get to learn the words because it only took us one day and a half to learn the chant all properly and off by heart.

Firstly we each show cased the chant we had been practicing. We all did good, my team was loud and proud. In athletics day we had nine events which were discus, high jump, tug of war, 200m, 1500m, 400m, 100m, shot put, ziggy marley. It was good to see most of our team participate and try but for me I wanted to do high jump but I missed the chance, only because my and via was lost.

Through it all it was cool seeing the year nine participating more than us (lols). The athletics this year has made the new bees to blend in more and feel comfortable more. Overall it was good we came last (i think), Personally I thank our leaders who have taught us our chant  in one and a half day, participated, encouraged us all to go up.(soz I have forgotten their names) lols. ohh and It was HOT!! str8 up. But all was good :):)

First Week Back ~ Ilisapeci

Starting year 10 on the 30 of Jan here at Tamaki College was really nerve racking. Firstly because I didn't know what class I was going to be in and also meeting my friends and also the new people. I was also very, very happy and excited to hear that my class was altogether again and that there was only three new people at my class. I find my subject teachers too nice to be honest. They weren’t as strict as last year but that all goods. :).

The new building is really cool, i find the painting boring because its white. It would be cool if it was different colour for the B Block or the S block but above it all, it really looks nice. The smell of the  paint just doesn't do it for me, probs too strong for me. ;)

Having the powhiri on Friday the 7th of Feb, was cool. I couldn’t really hear what was going on because I was sitting all the way at the back, but seeing new faces especially the year 9s was cool.

My beginners journey here at Tamaki started of well and I hope it finishes well. Good seeing my teachers and Friends and New people :P:)

Ilisapeci - Feedback

Using the net book has helped me connected to the internet faster. Sometimes using the net book can be hard but this year I have found it easier because I used last year to during Intermediate. This year doing my work online was something I have learnt all by myself this year. A special thing I have learnt this year from my teachers is you can talk on your work and this has helped me because they can tell what I did wrong in the work and that's what I like. Online the most significant thing was chatting with your friends. This is good in a way but sometimes it can distract us from learning. From my friend this year I have learnt that you can work in partners not only face to face but online. You can share a document and then you can both work on it. Outside the classroom I haven't really learnt anything because I have only learnt either at school or from my friends. I have helped my little brother in his net book and I have done a good job. I have taught him about what I have learnt through my friends and from my teachers.  I have grown don't know how but I have grown. In key competencies thinking,using language,managing self, relating to others, participating and contributing has helped me find out more about my net book. This has helped me work more faster and fluently with teachers and friends. I have learnt a lot about my net book this year and hope to find out more about it next year :)

If i were emperor and ruled planet earth …

1. I would not allow people who wouldn’t present themselves nicely to do what they want. (sensible)

2. Would Allow corner shops for me to be free , for whatever i want …Everything i wanted i should get , because Im boss okay … BOSS i repeat.

3. No one is allowed to be normal , you have to be weird… Funky , and yeop.

My Perfect Lesson - Ilisapeci

To me a perfect lesson looks like a classroom full of students , working real hard , for a better outcome. Students who are keen to be taught a lot of new things. Students who know they are capable of doing things when they grow older. Perfect lesson tend to be those one when , your class and yourself revise or recap on what has happened on the  previous lesson. Therefore , you know where you have finished , and where you need to carry on from , and that you remember what’s been taught. A classroom full of good students who don't waste their time but to take in what’s been taught .

Respect - Ilisapeci

Respect to me means , being polite to everyone . To me respect means using manners . Respect is something that is needed to be shown to everyone and everything. Respect should also be shown to things like not only people but religion , and culture.

Star Dome - Ilisapeci

I was feeling so excited , knowing that , it was the day that we got the opportunity to go to Stardome. All year 9 assembled to the front of Tamaki College , and was arranged into Groups. We were then loaded onto the buses by one of the teachers. We left school , and took the day off to explore new things. WE were able to watch what its like to do things in space , the importances of being in space, Exercise for an example. and that in space , and that brushing your teeth in space was also quite interesting. When we finish exploring the inside of Star Dome , we got to walk up One Tree Hill. WE reached the top after 15 mins walk from the StarDome , waiting on the other half of year 9 to finish exploring inside , and the view and everything up there was beautiful. Star Dome wasn't something I´ve been to before , but it was great , especially getting to go with the amazing 9PFN .

Ilisapeci - Bullying

Why is it difficult for parents , schools , teachers to do anything when bullying happens?

Well to me i think they find it hard , because they wouldn’t know who are the people that are telling the truth , and also that maybe finding the right consequences for them, because they wouldn’t know how big or how small the problem is , for the bully , and the person being bullied won’t speak up.

Athletics Day

Thursday 21st of March 2013 was the day Tamaki College had athletics. Athletics was really fun even though it was blazing hot. I think I had the most painting all over my face and legs. It was fun I guess the improvements I should have made was to join in many athletics activities. I think the sad thing for me was joining in one event which was 100m. I had a fun day and so was my classmates, Puriri came 3rd and I was really proud of our achievements especially my classmates. Maybe next year I would want to try joining in many events then just one. I would also like to thank Mrs Ferguson for bringing the paints and the equipments such as the afro wig, and the lei.

Today I am getting to know Seini Mino. Her Intermediate school is Pt England. Her best memory at Pt England is becoming a successful prefect in her school.
At Tamaki College, so far she has enjoyed meeting new people.
Favourite film is Narnia, she doesn't have a favourite T.v show. Her favourite music is Pop,Rock and her favourite food is Island food (e.g Taro)
Her hobbies is sketch,Paint and playing rugby.
