Level 1 - Tupac and Joe - Social Studies

At level 1 Social Studies, there are 20 credits on offer.  There are 3 internal achievement standards and 2 external, each worth 4 credits each.
The topics we cover are:
*  Social Networking - the causes and consequences
*  The 40 Hour Famine
*  Burma's fight for rights
*  Tokelau - Our small world
and two external topics that will be provided at the end of the year.

Senior social studies is about how societies work and how people can participate in their communities as informed, critical, active, and responsible citizens.
Students examine the causes and effects of social issues that relate to identity, culture, and organisation, and learn to take actions that may bring about social improvement.
They investigate how individuals, communities, and societies respond to change and how ideas about society develop over time.

The World Cup - Joseph

Japan
The characters that make up Japan's name mean "sun-origin" which is why Japan is often referred to as the "Land of the Rising Sun".

Info

Japan over all is made up of 6,852 islands but is mainly known for its four main islands Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku, which together comprise about ninety-seven percent of Japan's land area.

Japan has two main religions which are Shintoism and Buddhism. Religion is little discussed in everyday life and the majority of Japanese do not worship regularly or claim to be religious.

Japan is known for their local speciality whether it be a type of sweet, fish, noodle, seaweed or tofu. In everyday life Japanese people often talk about food. Rice is one of Japan's main food which is seen in most traditional dishes and rice has been a staple food for the Japanese for over 2000 years.

Traditional Japanese music usually refers to Japan's historical folk music. One of the defining characteristics of traditional Japanese music is its sparse rhythm. Traditional Japanese music has three main types, instrumental, court music, and theatrical.

Sport plays a significant part in the fabric of modern day Japanese life. From a young age children join school teams, instilling a sense of camaraderie, pride, hard work and dedication. Sports such as baseball, badminton, tennis and football are popular but Japan is better known for more traditional sports such as Sumo.

Integrity - Joseph

Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. It is standing for what is right and doing what is right.

Integrity in school is being able to stand up for wat you think is right even if everyone else is going against it. It is being honest and helping those who need help even if they dont. It is paying attention to your teacher even if everyone else is talking and mucking around

Athletics - Joseph

Well the chant sucked half of it didn't make sense and the other half was just annoying and the walk out there we kept stopping for no reason its weird, Mr Harris was going to deduct points off us we were so slow. What next? The weather rain, sun, cloud, rain, sun, cloud and the grass was all pointy and hurt my bum. I slept most of the day and got my face burnt but apart from allllllll of that it was a good day.

First Week Back - Joseph

The first week of school as year 10 was really cool because I had different teachers and different classes but the toughest part was choosing an option. I wanted to do PE but no one else was doing it and I didn't want to be alone. I finally chooses music because Nathaniel was doing it and he wanted me to. When I went to music Nathaniel wasn't there and it sucked so i changed to PE. I glad because all the teachers I got this year are really cool and I am looking forward to a great year.   The first week of school as year 10 was really cool because I had different teachers and different classes but the toughest part was choosing a tech option.
