Level 1 Options - Angelica, Hainite and Athena - Media Studies

The Media Studies Teacher here at Tamaki College is Ms Emery. We asked her a few questions based on what NCEA would be like if we chose the option "Media Studies".

In L1 Media Studies 20 credits are offered over the year. 3 assessments are internal and 2 assessments are external. The externals are worth 4 credits each. 

For L2 Media Studies 21 credits are offered and for L3 Media Studies 20 credits are offered to each student. There is one external for those levels.

Media Studies is an Approved Subject at Level 3, which is important if you want to go to University. All levels offer Merit and Excellence Endorsement

Media Studies is connected to so many different career options, but the majority of them are in the Arts Industries. So if you're interested in Journalism, Radio, Television or Film Production, Newspapers, Script writing, Acting, Writing, or Advertising, then Media Studies is the place to go.

Here is Ms Emery's word of advice on the job opportunities on this option.

In order to gain credits the best strategy is to attend class every lesson, complete the homework, classwork and assessments, according to the achievement criteria, and LOVE watching, talking about, critiquing and participating in ALL forms of Media. So when the class is asked to go home and watch television for homework, I am serious. I really do want the class to go home and watch television. Or, if there's an amazing new movie out. I EXPECT my students to go see it. And then talk about it in class. Or, take the class along too. Or, listen to a wide range of radio stations. Or, read a wide range of newspapers. Or, make a film. Or, play the latest game. Or, Make a Vlog. Or, write a script. I expect total dedication to Film Club, that means attending film screenings every fortnight after school. (By the way, Film Club this Thursday in B8 is the classic, 'Singing in the Rain'. You're welcome to join us. Bring your own popcorn Media Studies rocks BIG TIME!

The World Cup - Hainite

Country: Japan

Japan is an island nation in East Asia.  The word "Japan" means "Land Of The Rising Sun". Japan is one of the many countries in the world with the most population. The 4 largest islands in Japan are, Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku. 

Sushi is a type of food originally from Japan that I like to eat. The ingredients mainly used are tuna, squid and prawns.  

Taiko is one of Japan's many instruments. It is s a Japanese drum that comes in different sizes. Also, Japanese folk songs are in 4 different groups. There is a category of work songs, religious songs, songs for gatherings, and lastly children's songs. 

The 'Kimono' is a traditional Japanese garment. Japanese kimonos are wrapped around the body. Kimono's are made of hemp or linen and today more layers are just getting added to it. 

Japanese Art covers different kinds of styles. Some of the most well known styles include symbol work, wood prints, textiles like fabrics, ink paintings and much much more. Much of the art are based on the ideas of the Buddhist beliefs of Zen, Tranquillity, Humbleness, Serenity and Beauty. 

One thing Japan is famous for is for their "Shinkansen" also known as the "Bullet Train".

My 2 options for next year are Music&Catering and im not sure what im going to do in the future  . 

Integrity - Hainite

Definition of Integrity :

- The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.

Integrity at school: Being honest, responsible, respectful? and not cheating :)

How to make a PERFECT jam and peanut butter sandwich

Before doing anything you need to wash your hands LH

Step 1: Get the materials
- 2 slices of Bread
- Peanut Butter
- Jam
- Chopping Board
- Knife


Step 2: Prepare the Bread

Step 3: Apply Peanut Butter to one bread slice

Step 4: Apply you Jam to your other bread slice

Step 5: Combine both slices of bread


Last step: Eat & Repeat

Athletics - Hainite

Athletics was a blast, seeing different colours and smiles. Better
chants and better leaders. This year I felt confident with
participating one sport such as discuss. I hope next year will be
better, that way it will be extreme.

Pirate Joke - Hainite

1. Why are pirates great singers?

Because they can  hit the high C's

2. Why cant you take a picture of a pirate with a wooden leg?

Because a wooden leg doesn't take pictures

3. Why does it take so long for pirates to learn the alphabetical order?

Because they spend years at C

If I Ruled the World - Hainite

If Haiinite Ruled The World ^.^

1. If I ruled the world I would make school teachers provide snack in class.

2.  I would make school homework free 

3. I would make Tamaki have a free period everyday :-)

My Perfect Lesson - Hainite

If I was to have my perfect lesson, It will have sofa's every where, LOUD music, my class would work on iPads, we would have a cupboard full of food ^.^ , a kick back teacher, a BIGGER cupboard of sweets and pretty much junk. My class will be free to do anything as long as nobody gets hurt. We would learn about singers, country's, actors and anything. My class will be full of teenagers.

Respect - Hainite

What does respect mean to me?

Respect to me means to always be polite towards others. Lend a helping hand. Help those in need. Show good manners and always be respectful. Be respectful towards others and especially yourself. Never be disrespectful because, being disrespectful is not good.

Star Dome - Hainite

On the 7th of June the year 9 students got the opportunity to visit the Stardome  .

During our time of the trip, I learnt quite a few things like, A rocket has to carry its own fuel tank separately. At the Stardome I watched this interesting video about brushing your teeth in space. Unfortunately you have to swallow all the liquid that you create from brushing your teeth ... In other words you cant spit your liquid out.

Some day I hope that I could return to the Stardome and learn much more.

Hainite - Bullying

Why is it difficult for parents , schools , teachers to do anything when bullying happens?

I think that it is difficult for parent/schools/teachers to do anything when bullying happens because, Sometimes they do not have any evidence. Some people dont really care because some people can think that they are joking.

Hainite - Athletics

PURIRI!! WHOHHO Athletics was a blast. I had the most funest  time meeting new people and trying out new activities. I really enjoyed seeing people smile and having alot of fun. My highlight was when PURIRI stood with condenseness and did our cheer. I hope I have more fun next year.

Hainite - Getting to Know You

 This week for homework 9pfn had to pick a piece of paper that had a number on it and, to get a partner you had to find the person with the same number as you. When we found our partner we had to write info about them. Luck for me I got the beautiful IRASA LAFI.

    Irasa attended the school called Tamaki Intermediate and her best memory in intermediate was when she had to perform for the hakawaiata in Tamaki Intermediate.

     Irasa tells me that she has enjoyed meeting new people and teachers. She tells me that it is great meeting new people so that you dont have to be shy in front of them. She all so enjoys being in music because she likes to sing.

     

     Irasa's favourite food are takeaway's like for e.g (C.J, M D's and K.F.C) she also enjoys eating her tridional samoan food. Her hobbies are listening to music and singing.

TREAT OTHERS FAIRLY

It is good to treat each other with respect because, if you treat them right they will treat you the same way. Treating people with respect is good so that nobody feels left out or odd. Please don't put people down lift them up cheer them so they feel comfy. I hop that this rule will be followed because, now and days it feels like this rule doesn't exist any more.

Hainite - Merits

At Tamaki College the year 9's collect all their merits for this little challenge called Class of the week. We do this every Friday so that means, we have a winner every week .The winner gets the trophy and a surprise.
