My Options Next Year - Sylvia

The options I’ll be taking next year, will definitely be Automotive and History. Why? I chose these two options because in the future I’d like to become a civil Engineer and as for History, it’s just a subject I happen to be interested in quite a lot

Teach Me Something - Sylvia

I don’t what I was going to do for this so I just decided to teach you how to play a D chord on a Guitar. If you already know how to do it, then too bad so sad
.D1.jpg
1. You take your second finger from the right (ring finger) and place it on the second to last string of the third fret. You count from the end going up - You know it’s the third fret because there’ll be a round dot placed right in the centre of the 6 strings.
D2.jpg
2. Then take your middle finger (Bad finger lol) and place it on the last string on the second fret - The fret on the left side from the third without a dot in the centre.
D.jpg
3. THEN.. Take your pointy finger (Index finger) and place it on the third string from the bottom, also on the second fret. Make sure it’s not touching your middle finger or else it’ll go off key.

Lol, the end :-)

Athletics - Sylvia

Hence the fact that I didn’t participate in anything, I still enjoyed myself supporting from behind the ropes on the field in front of the events taking place. Chant practice before the actual thing started went pretty well, no actually, it looked like the real deal from my persepctive. The performance didn’t go as well as we expected compared to the practice we had but it still reached a good expectation. Oh yeah, I hate Athletics because anything to do with running is stupid. Puriri is cool.

First Week Back - Sylvia

I’m now an official Year 10 at Tamaki College. Hence the fact that my House colour is Blue (Ew), I’m able to share memories with PFn for another whole year. Hence the fact that I’m still a Junior, being a Year 10 so far this year is going real good. The good part about it, is we can make the choice of our own to choose our Option choice, so I thought I’d go with Business, just to plan ahead a little bit earlier. It’s good seeing all the young Year 9’s walking around enjoying themselves as well as everyone else too. Renovations have been taking place in our B Block area and so it’s been quite a mission getting to our tutor class which has been re-loacted on the Tech side of the school. To me personally, I reckon this year will go real good education wise, especially now that our class has gotten to know each other and that the bond we share is beyond great.

If I Ruled the World - Sylvia

If I, VIA SWAG, were the ruler of planet Earth..

1. I would abolish smoking & alcohol to children under the age of 18.
2. I would let teachers get paid a whole lot more than they are now.
3. I would also STOP racism, bullying, self-harm etc. For the sake of those that are living & going through rough times.

My Perfect Lesson - Sylvia

The way I see it, my perfect lesson would have to be something that goes way beyond dreaming free. It would involve some free time & honestly, just seeing all my teachers happy for one whole day! I would understand detention or consequences appointed to me, but I guess my perfect lesson would have to involve some sort of entertainment. For every class, I'd love to sit next to the people I wish to & just have a laugh but go by the rules as well. I would honestly love school forever!!!

Respect - Sylvia

Respect can be shown as actions and as well as being spoken, but many people assemble different meanings for it. To me, if you want respect, you have to earn it by giving it to someone else. At home, as the youngest member in the house, I show equal respect to everyone. It’s not compulsory, it’s the right thing to do. I think at school, we improve our respect towards teachers. To respect a teacher, I think you need to show grattitude, just to show that we are not wasting their time teaching us the skills they know to help us get better in our educational areas. As a christian, I change the way I speak towards my elders and I respect the area and people that I share my presence with. Anywhere out of these areas, your respect should be shown equally. It doesn’t matter where you are or who you’re with, you don’t change for anyone. Respect is respect.

Star Dome - Sylvia

Year 9’s were lucky enough to visit stardome on Friday. We got there and had the chance to watch a film all about our solar system and how our planet is orbiting today. We didn’t spend too long in there until we were allowed to visit the observatory room. Soon after, we were instructed to enter the space room where we learn about astronauts and rockets. I enjoyed it quite a bit, no doubt about that.

As a second rotation, we all went for a walk up-hill to one tree hill. Up there, we saw things we hadn’t experienced in quite a long time. We took photos as a way of capturing memories. Then our way back to the bus, we took a whole lot more as a class and as friends. My experience was like no other, I enjoyed it a lot. I wouldn’t mind doing it again some time soon.

Sylvia - Bullying

Why is it difficult for teachers/schools/parents, to help when bullying happens?

I, myself think it’s difficult for these adults because children are a big part of their lives, especially as a teacher and parent. Teachers take full responsibility of their care and safety at school, which is a huge priority. On the other hand, Parents take full responsibility for pretty much the rest of their lives and it’s much more harder especially when children keep secrets most of the time. Especially through moments like these, which occur around the whole world, so it’s practically normal. All Parents/Teachers and Schools need to do is make sure that whenever bullying happens and they find out, that they stop it immediately to try and keep that child safe. Thank You!

Sylvia - Athletics

My very first year 9 Athletics took place on our Tamaki College field on Thursday the 21st of March. It was just like an ordianry day but it was packed with loads of fun activites for all students. On the other hand, it was a team war between house colours, Kowhai, Totara, Rata and Puriri. I was officially a member of Puriri and tried my best representing it as well. We had an awesome day ahead of us.

Watching and competing in the chants comp in the beginning, was one of my highlights. Many of them were so creative and so hard to beat, therefore, we may have lost faith.
Puriri in the end, didn’t quite win that challenge, but we got through it. Also a highlight of mine was watching and supporting our Puriri relay team. As I was watching, my heart pounded faster every step a Puriri runner took, it was exciting to keep watch of. Other houses did really well, some we couldn’t keep up with. I no doubt think next year, we will do better.

Sylvia - Getting to Know You

For the past 2 days, I have been doing some serious research on a classmate of mine, Angelica. I find this girl very funny, thoughtful and smart, though sometimes she doesn’t show it. I’m glad she is part of my class 9PFn this year.

First things first, Angelica attended St Pius X and was very grateful to be apart of that school. Her best memory there was everyday - good and bad as she says. So far here at Tamaki College, she has enjoyed bonding well with others, building a strong relationship with Tatiana, (Bestfriend) and experiencing what it’s like being in college.

Angelica likes films that connect to the genres: Drama, Sports, Music and Comedy. Her favourite tv shows as a matter of fact is Revenge and Shortland Street. On the other hand, she prefers anything that is yummy and nice to eat when it comes to food. Angelica has great taste in music also, she’s a one directioner, fond of Chris Brown and listens to anything that has a upbeat like reggae. Lastly, her hobbies are to shop, sing, play guitar or piano and surfing the web (e.g facebook).

And that... Is my friend Angelica:-)

Sylvia - The Tamaki Way

The rule ‘No Violence, abuse or racism’ is something the students of Tamaki College should always follow. Why? Because first, violence does not solve anything. It solves NOTHING. Abuse? Well, It’s a bit similar to violence. You do not hit people unless it’s for self-defense or a for a good purpose. Don’t fight. Don’t hit. Just keep your hands to yourself. Last but not least, Racism. Everyone is the same, just different in their own way. People are different colours, nothing funny about that. People speak different languages, there’s nothing wrong with that either. People come from different families and that’s something you take pride in... Not mock about. So yes, follow the rules and you will not be punished with consequences.

Sylvia - The Powhiri

A powhiri is a traditional Maori welcoming that involves waiatas and hongi’s etc. The year 9’s of Tamaki College 2013, were welcomed into the Tamaki whanau on February 7th. We were greeted in with a big speech by our Maori Father, and were also welcomed by the beautiful sound of waiatas sung by the Junior and Senior kapa haka group. Our year 9’s this year are thankful enough to have a school as kind as yours.
